Our History
Founded in 1920 by Carrie Chapman Catt, the League began as a "mighty political experiment" to help women become more politically active after garnering suffrage. The League was established as a non-partisan organization to protect it from becoming involved with the party politics of the 1920s. Since then, the League has continued to grow as a non-partisan grassroots organization, encouraging its members to be politically involved while promoting civic engagement and education throughout their communities.
